And now, a trip in the wayback machine...

...back to my highschool English Lit class. Miss Cockrill's class, to be specific. Very few specific memories from high school stick in my mind, especially those where I wasn't a direct participant, but sometimes something happens that just hooks itself in your mind.

We were studying Chaucer's Canturbury Tales, and one of the tasks we had to complete was reciting the first 18 lines of the Prologue in the original Middle English. They go like this:

Whan that aprill with his shoures soote
The droghte of march hath perced to the roote,
And bathed every veyne in swich licour
Of which vertu engendred is the flour;
Whan zephirus eek with his sweete breeth
Inspired hath in every holt and heeth
Tendre croppes, and the yonge sonne
Hath in the ram his halve cours yronne,
And smale foweles maken melodye,
That slepen al the nyght with open ye
(so priketh hem nature in hir corages);
Thanne longen folk to goon on pilgrimages,
And palmeres for to seken straunge strondes,
To ferne halwes, kowthe in sondry londes;
And specially from every shires ende
Of engelond to caunterbury they wende,
The hooly blisful martir for to seke,
That hem hath holpen whan that they were seeke.

Now, that week was also Spirit Week; each day had a different theme, and the student body was encouraged to dress according to the theme. As luck would have it, that day's theme was "the 70s", and several of the guys in my class went as pimps. One of the would-be pimps, Sean (whose last name escapes me at the moment), decided to do his recitation that day...

"Whan that aprill with his shoures soote
The droghte of march hath perced to the roote..."

And he paused for a second, and then continued....

"And bathed every pimp in sweet liquor!"

Yes, it's a "you had to be there" moment, but it's stuck in my mind as one of the few moment in high school where I had full appreciation of a class clown. :)

Things I want eventually...

Z said I should put up a wish list, so here's a short one...

Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne
AEG's Swashbuckling Adventures
Unreal Tournament 2003
The Animatrix (DVD)
The Matrix (DVD)
Mechwarrior: Dark Age 'clix
Marvel Heroclix
Some cards from the Call to Arms expansion for Warlord

I guess that's all the extraneous, toy-like items I can think of at the moment. I can take care of my needs; it's the wants that sometimes get ignored. ^_^
