nockergeekWell, I've just come out of my sinus-medicine-induced coma, and feel much better. None of my attempts to contact the office or our client have succeeded, so I'm thinking there's no need to worry about working today.
Of course, the fact that over 200,000 people in KC are without power might have something to do with it. I'm wondering if our office is out. At least the place where Z's website is hosted has backup power generators, guaranteeing uptime.
Mom called and said Harrisonville, my home town where she still works, is an absolute warzone. They're apparently going to be out of power there for 12 to 48 hours. Power line poles are snapped all along some of the major roads and highways there, and there are houses and cars that have been damaged by falling trees. I don't doubt it - from what I hear, they got the brunt of the storm, and if things are bad up here, down there they must be horrid.
Contemplated going out for lunch, but found that we've only got $80 in the bank. Fortunately, I get paid tomorrow, so we'll be okay for rent and bills and groceries and such. I cannot wait until things turn around and we start getting bonuses again. Of course, Z's getting a payment for the Rogue book she worked on, and there's the pic she's doing for Jed, so there's another $110 or so that we'll be bringing in in the next 2 weeks, so we should be okay. I know I tell her this, but I just have to reiterate - she is being such a gigantic help by bringing in money with her artwork. Even if it's only a hundred dollars or so a month, it's a huge help. It takes the sharp edge off our poor financial situation, and allows us a little breathing room - not to mention she's making the money by doing the one thing she's wanted to do all her life. Work's been relatively constant, which is very good. I can't wait until she starts getting her portfolios out to a few other companies.
So despite the fact that it's utter shite outside, it's all good in here. Keep warm, everybody.
