It's too quiet in the office again. Everyone's retired to their own offices to work on their own projects, and the only sounds are my fingers on the keyboard, the old network hub sitting on my desk, and the occasional sounds of traffic outside.

When it gets this quiet, it's hard to maintain momentum in working. It's easy to start sliding to a slow halt. I start getting drowsy, my brain stops processing as quickly, and even my body begins to get sluggish as I progress. Eventually, I lose my focus completely.

Oh, what I would give to have the old office dynamic again, before we were in our own rooms, back when we had an open cubicle farm where we could all talk while we worked. It probably didn't make productivity any better, but it certainly didn't let it get worse, since group morale was so good. Not that morale's bad - business is really picking up, more than it ever has before in this quarter - but with the slimming down of our company, the group dynamics are all gone.

I need a little bit of noise and conversation to keep my brain going.
