Aug. 22nd, 2002 09:44 pmIt's sometimes strange how easily we get accustomed to change, despite any vehement protests we make beforehand.
Take L5R, for example. I remember when Pearl Edition was announced, with the new, simplified and updated card faces. Oh, the bitching! Oh, the complaints! "This makes the game too Magic-like!" "My clan's colors look so bad now!" "I hate the new card faces!"
A couple of years later, I think the old card faces are so much harder to read than the new ones. I much prefer the post-Pearl look.
When the card backs were changing, another cry went up. "The new backs look so wrong! They're not the old ones!" Even I contributed to this complaining; I remember seeing Spirit Wars cards and thinking how horribly wrong they looked.
And now? I actually prefer them. I try to get my cards in Gold version whenever possible.
Plus ça change, plus c'est la meme chose.
