New PC specs
Feb. 27th, 2008 04:48 pmAfter going over
j4m573r's glorious new/upgrade PC thread on FO and trying to follow it to the letter, I've finally put together a new parts list for what I need.
And of course it's from NewEgg. Duh.
$1,415 plus shipping, not counting the 2 $40 mail-in rebates I'd get on the memory. I've already got a brand new optical drive and a sufficiently good flat-screen monitor, so I don't need those. Getting a comparable PC from Dell would cost me $1,983. Home-brew is always better. :)
Of course, I'm not actually buying anything. I don't have the money, and
the_z has nixed the idea of getting a NewEgg account (we have other accounts to pay off first). Maybe by Christmas, or possibly even my birthday, though.

on 2008-03-04 11:58 am (UTC)I just wanted to remind you to check out Microcenter's stuff. We just put together a COMPLETE new PC except HD (case, power supply, mobo, processor, ram, fans, dvd/cd burner) for my dad for under $200. Granted, it's a basic system, but with their sales and general deals, you could save some big bucks. Plus, I tend to get 1/3 DOA crap from Newegg :( Their "savings" get eaten up by the stupid shipping fees to return it, and sometimes they had the audacity to charge a freakin' RESTOCK FEE on a BROKEN PART!
Just keep an eye out for Microcenter's 20% sytem-builder sales. They just ended one 2/29, but they have 'em all the time.
