There's a lot of things I don't miss about WoW. I don't miss running out of things to do after hitting the level cap because I'm a casual player. I don't miss never being able to acquire the really cool-looking/good gear because I don't raid. (Yes, the icon is somewhat ironic.) I don't miss the monthly fees. I don't miss the spots of drama and stress that come with running a guild. I don't miss grinding for rep or materials or gold. I don't miss being trying to schedule instance runs. It's been over a year since I quit the game, and nothing's made me nostalgic for those parts of the game.

Every now and again, though, I do get nostalgic for the good things. I miss the overall gameplay. I miss the art direction and the style of the world. I miss the little quirks and in-jokes that Blizzard throws into everything. I miss the feeling of accomplishment of beating a tough instance boss for the first time, or seeing some really cool scripted event, or finally getting the damned +healing hammer that I've been chasing after for months. I miss playing with friends.

If WoW had no monthly fees and the expansion was free (fat chance of that), I might go back. Start a new character from scratch, or maybe just work Keegan up to 70 first (assuming he's still floating out there in the ether on Khaz Modan), and just play at my own pace, no pressure, log in when I want, solo a bit, maybe see if a friend's guild will take me in for fun. Not much chance of that happening, but it's a little mental exercise my brain kicks around sometimes when it's idle. I think it's just curious to see all the things I haven't seen yet. Can't say I blame it.

Don't get me wrong, though; I do not regret quitting the game. Sure, I picked up a cheap copy of Guild Wars last week to scratch my MMO itch, but it's free to play, so it'll get me through any lingering withdrawals. :)
