nockergeek: (disappointed)

Unemploymentville. Population: still me.

So the bad news and the good news.

The bad news is, none of my leads for work have panned out. The placement service I've been using hasn't found any positions for me, and none of my resumes have had any action. Furthermore, my contract with my previous employer apparently bans me from doing web development business in the Kansas City area - they classify it as "indirect competition". Since that's kind of what I do, it puts me in a very tough situation.

The good news is that I've managed to line up some freelance work outside of the KC area, and that should cover me for a month or two. I've got some other leads on out-of-area freelance work as well, so I might be able to sustain this for a while. Wish me luck!

I wouldn't worry about the non-compete clause too much. I've heard that they're largely unenforceable, and most companies don't bother trying to do so. I sincerely doubt your former employer could find its own ass enough to hire legal representation to try to enforce it.

Yeah, noncompetes are BS, and mostly there to prevent you from switching contract agencies while doing the same job. There's no pragmatic reason for them once you leave the job itself.

You definitely put in your time...

Wow. Broke free, huh? Good to see you're still hangin' in there bud.

I could definitely use another developer on our integrations team. How's your java kung fu?

Working on my 1.5 certification now, actually. Mostly been focused on PHP, but I'm trying to keep my Java sharp. Drop me a line (email's on my user profile) and I'll get you my resume. :)
