nockergeek: (annoyed)

Unfortunately, I didn't get to mow or work on Warlord decks. Instead, I ended up working on "bulletproofing" a web application that we're going to be showing on Friday (but that the client wants to have done by tomorrow all of a sudden). At least, bulletproofing is how my boss refers to it. It's more akin to "idiot-proofing," and we all know what a pointless endeavour that can be. Basically, we're having to trim every possibility that a user can fill in the forms incorrectly or leave out information. Yes, I know form validation is a necessary evil, but it still annoys me, because I can fill out the forms correctly during testing, but the client can't. I can count on the fingers of one hand the actual programatic issues that were found, and all the unforseen workflow issues on the other. Everything else, so far as I can tell, was all due to poor data entry on the part of the client -- who was demonstrating it to their client at the time, so now they're gunshy.

Personally, I have no sympathy, as they decided to demonstrate alpha code (and they knew it was alpha code) to a potential customer after only testing/using it themselves for several hours. However little sympathy I have, though, it doesn't change the fact that I have to wrap the application in the code equivalent of thick rubber foam and safety tape overnight for them to feel comfortable using it.
