Apr. 21st, 2005 06:53 pmFirst of all, a Happy Happy Birthday to
hotokegi!
Secondly, you may note that I'm making a post while I'm at home, which would indicate that we have a 'net connection again. I located the problem, and have circumvented it. Apparently, the cable going into the office was severed. Not sure why, as neither Z nor I have gone near the cable with any sharp implements. It was rather wrapped up in a plant that seemed to have grown around it, though, so my guess is that the plant (which was tightly wound around the cable near the break) finally won the battle of constriction v. cable insulation. Still looks odd -- it's cut at about a 45 degree angle -- but considering how much trouble I had finding the cut amongst the plant, I can't think of anyone who would have done it intentionally.
Fortunately, there's another cable drop into the house in the next room over, and that room also has a network drop that routes back into the office, so I just moved the modem into the guest room, plugged it in to both the cable and the network, then plugged the network drop into the proper spot in the router in the office, and boom! we had a connection.
Still going to have the tech come out tomorrow, as we still have signal issues, and we still have a cut cable outside of the house. Z can't figure out why I bothered fixing it, so I'll be moving tte modem back into the office tomorrow morning, but I just wanted the damn thing to work. You think she'd understand by now; I'm a nocker. I fix things. It's what I do.
