Apr. 11th, 2005 06:51 pmI've often said (offline, at least) that, for me, cell phones are mostly for emergencies when I need to get a hold of someone. Today proved that.
greenwings and I were leaving the office, and as we approached the parking lot we both noticed a woman kneeling/propping herself up with the railing around the lot. Looked like she was just picking something up and then getting up, so we paid her no mind and went towards the car. Then, suddenly, she fell to the ground again and started spasming. Not just tremors, but full-body jerking spasms. Sash ran over to prop her up, asking me if I had my phone. I quickly got it out and called 911. Explaining the situation as best I could (as I didn't know this woman from Adam and had no idea of her medical history), I told them what I knew/could see and got the paramedics coming to the scene, flagging them down when they arrived. She seemed to be coming out of the seizure as they arrived, and they helped her onto a gurney and wheeled her into the back of the ambulance, where they could talk to her about her condition and apply more care if needed.
Sometimes, you're just at the right place at the right time with the right tool at hand. Today was that day for me.
