Stay on target... stay on target...

I had two things to work on when I came in to work today. I've since had 3 or 4 more things dumped in my lap by various clients, all of which, as always, are "we must have it ASAP" priority. I have being in the position of having to tell a customer that I can't work on their project because there are 4 other customers competing for their time. As far as they're concerned, I exist only to do their work, not anyone else's.

So yeah, it's all I can do to keep from throwing things sometimes. Got to stay focused. Can't let my mind revolt and choose distraction over production. Trying not to be too snippy right now, and it's an uphill challenge.

Clients are of the Devil. Sometimes, this seems to be the only explanation for their bizarre mix of selfishness, lack of consideration, and friendly blame-shifting. Only a client can give you a short deadline and incomplete info, and then somehow make it feel like it's your fault for not turning things out as fast as they might like. It's like dark magic, I tell you.

If there's anything that can make a crap day better, it's tackling a minor technological hurdle all on one's own. Getting this one little thing done (making a JavaScript keybuffer that triggers on certain control characters) is going to make tomorrow's work much, much easier, for the most part.

So it's all about celebrating the small victories.
