nockergeek: (depressed)
Feeling a sudden bout of fatigue and depression again. At least this one's not accompanied by nagging voices in my head, though. I'm just feeling very lonely and cut off from everything at the moment. Wonder if some caffeine/sugar will help me back up.

Y'know, sometimes I really wish I could just be mentally well for once. This sucks, especially after feeling so wonderful two days ago.

Our IP address at work changed early this week due to a DSL disconnect/reconnect. One of our clients has their FTP server blocked to all but a list of predefined IP addresses. Normally, I would add our new IP to the list, but due to some server problems earlier in the week the client didn't want me making any server changes. Okay, fine - so I told their hosting service to take care of the matter for me. I waited for 3 days for them to get around to making the change, during which I'm getting requests for work that I can't do. Yesterday, they claimed to have made the change, but a quick test showed that I was still blocked. I contacted the client, and they agreed to let me make the change myself. I made the change, and I had FTP access again.

Today, I get an email from one of the people at the hosting service;
That's strange, since I added your IP address to both sites. I apologize for all the problems we've had with this issue. If you were
unable to connect, it must have been because the FTP service wasn't restarted. It was restarted late yesterday. Just to make sure we're
talking about the same thing, I took some screenshots. The screenshots show the changes I made yesterday morning. Were these the ones you said were missing yesterday when you had to make the change yourself?

And he included a screenshot with the IP address in question circled in red. Now, when I made my changes, that IP address wasn't there. I added it... and while I was there, I removed about 10 to 15 old IP entries. Now, when we remove lnes from a scrolling list, what happens? That's right - the scrollbar gets bigger. I compared his screenshot to the current server config screen. Guess what?

They're the same size. That means he took his screenshot after I made my changes, not before.

My response:
I removed about 10-15 old IP address entries from the Default FTP granted list. Judging from the length of the scrollbar in your screenshot, which is identical in length to the current scrollbar, I'd say you took that screenshot after I made my changes and restarted FTP. Had the screenshot shown a smaller scrollbar (indicating more entries), it would have been from before I made my changes.

I'm trying to remain professional, but the man basically called me a liar, considering that I told the client that the IP address had not been added prior to my adding it, which it wasn't. Can't add duplicates, so it can't have been there when I added it. There's some things I'll put up with. Being called dishonest is not on that list.

Came home early. Felt good to get some sunlight. Wondering if I'm just fatigued, because my depression seems to have gone away. Still feeling tired, so I wonder if that's the root of my problem. Whatever the cause, though, I'm home with my baby and my dog, and it feels good.
