When it rains...
Yesterday, Dad gave me $50 to help cover the car repairs, and I had every intention of paying him back. Take the car in, get it fixed, get out, go to work, get paid on Friday, pay Dad back on Sunday. This was supposed to be a simple case of replacing the exhaust hangers and being done with the matter.
Well, I took the car into Midas this morning. A quick cursory glance, at the car, and the guy starts ordering parts. I hear the words "muffler" and "exhaust pipe" mentioned. I ask him how much this will cost. He then explains that the muffler isn't just loose... it's rotted out around where the exhaust pipe enters it. Because of the way these are made, the entire assembly has to be replaced.
Needless to say, this is going to cost a tad more than $50. More like $350. Right now, I do not have that kind of money spare. If I saved up for a few weeks, sure, but not right now. Unfortunately, waiting is not an option - he shows me the muffler, and it's obvious that it's going to fall off any day now. It's a miracle that it hasn't happened yet.
So, I do what any enterprising 20-something man with little money would do...
... I call my parents.
So, Dad's on his way to spot me another $300, which I will also have to pay back (and I'm fine with that; I wouldn't have it any other way). I'm just getting a little, well, tired of having to have my parents bail me out every time. This has got to stop. Hopefully, having a savings account will take care of that problem... now, if we can just have money that we're not spending on repairing the car to put into that account. :)
