Saw a guy trying to hitchhike to Utah today on my drive in to work. I can't even try to imagine travelling like that, standing on the side of a highway, everything stuffed into a duffle bag or backpack, holding a crudely-drawn cardboard sign, stuck out in the elements, not knowing when your next ride will stop to pick you up, or even if someone will stop at all.

At what point do you give up and just start walking? Walking to Utah... and at what point does hope kick back in and you try your luck again?

Of course, there's no way for me to know where he started his trip from. Maybe he started way out on the East Coast, and he's made it this far. That suddenly puts a bit of perspective on it -- he's hitched halfway across the country at that point; why stop now?

That is someone who makes it on faith alone.

Shelving the Rokugan d20 game for right now. Not for lack of a plot -- I really like the plot that [livejournal.com profile] dilemma got me started with. I'm just a little rustier with the culture and the etiquette than I'd like, and those are major major aspects of Rokugan. The mindset's quite a bit different than a Western-based game. So, for the meantime, I'm setting that plot aside and contemplating a Forgotten Realms game instead. Got a basic plot in mind already and a couple of chapters burbulating around in my head. Not getting hung up on details either. In fact, I've been altering the game world a bit to better fit what I want to do, which is definitely liberating.

So, a handful of players is all I need to really take these ideas and tailor them... and then it's caravan time!
