Catching up since last Wednesday
Sep. 3rd, 2002 11:55 amI've been a bit delinquent in keeping my journal updated in the last week, so it's time to catch up.
Thursday was boring, mainly because I spent all day in Topeka on business. Namely, in a Payless Shoe Source factory in Topeka, where we did the inventory management and workflow system. Nothing like sitting in a car with your boss for an hour or so, then sitting in a conference room for about 5 hours taking notes, then sitting in the car for another hour on the way back. Killed my brain dead with boredom.
Friday was working on finishing up various project steps in order to get out a bit early, then going out with Z for shopping and dinner and fun. Oh, and of course, taking Ein with us. Z loves that little guy, and that love manifests itself in her wanting to have him come along with us whenever we go out. Ein loves his bye-bye time, so he's totally keen on it. I, on the other hand, like to take him with us sometimes. Sometimes does not include routine shopping outings, but Z vetoes my vote by sneaking the dog out when I'm not looking.
Went ahead and rented Onimusha 2. Pretty sweet game. Already put in twice the time I put into the original game, and I'm still only in possession of 2 weapons in the game. Getting a real kick out of the Gift system for influencing the side characters. Shame I have to take it back on Saturday.
Speaking of Saturday, that was a day of discovery and defeat. The discovery was learning that Burger King now sells tacos that are better-tasting and cheaper than Taco Bell. Of course, they gave me wicked heartburn a few hours later, but it was worth it. The defeat was my poor performance at the L5R tourney that night -- I went 1-2, mainly because I played my first 2 rounds against the two factions that cream me every time - Shadowlands and Scorpion. My deckbuilding and playing skills just aren't up to snuff to beat superior decks, and my luck runs out too; my opponents either get awesome draws or my deck starts choking. Shame that I spent $5 for the opportunity to lose 2 games -- I can lose for free. I need to get in some more non-tourney games, so that my skills can improve, and so that I can hopefully get in some casual play too.
Sunday was a church day, followed up by a barbeque at Mom and Dad's that evening. The food was delicious, and introducing Dad to Sealab 2021 was fun. However, the night was capped off by a mad dash after Ein through the neighboorhood at night. In an attempt to play with Avery (my parent's 17-pound-all-muscle-and-claws cat), he leapt from the backseat, between the front seats, and out my door (which I was leaving open; my bad). At first he just circled Avery, who then chased back, eventually driving Ein down the street and into a cul-de-sac, where he ran into a fence separating him from a few other dogs, who then kept his attention as we drew closer. Z eventually got him cornered in someone's garage. Of course, Ein just saw it all as a good run and rested in the car on the way home.
Monday was Labor Day, which I said translated into Love A Bo Or Rene' Day. Met Z for lunch, since she had to work (but got time-and-a-half for working on a holiday). Went out to the mall, and tried out the new Panda Express there. They actually have pretty good Chinese, although it's a little more expensive than I'd like. Spent some time hanging with Dennis, which is always nice. Tried getting some mini-painting done, but then Dan, Mark, and Kat came over and broke my creative streak -- but I forgive them. :)
So anyway, that was the Labor Day weekend in extremely short format.
