My journey into further geekitude, chapter 1

Well, here I am, working on my webpage, trying to find a news management system that will suit my purposes but not overload me with features I don't need. I'm beginning to think I may have to write one from scratch, or at least heavily modify an existing system. No biggie - I write and modify content management systems for a living, so this is nothing new. Hell, maybe I can even take what I write, GPL it, and send it out for the world to see. Don't need too much; I just need a system that can handle multiple stories in multiple categories. I don't need a fully featured news site with sidebars and tracking of the last few days stories and a member management system. A comment system might be a nice add-on later, but I don't think it'll be necessary.

Also, I've been wrestling with the idea of having a "random gal of the moment" feature on my site. Nothing original, really; just a random image displayer that would select a pic from a directory of Maxim-style pictures I've been grabbing off of Brazilian model sites. Nothing pornographic, and nothing that can't be shown on the US newstand... just swimsuit pics. Haven't decided if I'm sold on the idea yet; I may shelve it until I get done with the rest of the site.

And I would like to add that Brazilian sites feature some nice looking women. One thing I like about Brazil - they don't go for fake breasts. They go for natural breasts and curvy rears.

*ahem* Anyway.

Oh, I suppose I should explain. See that "Fire & Blood" link up there in the corner? I'm putting that site on temporary hiatus (not that it has much of anything on it anyway) until I finish my vanity site, BoGeek. Once that's done, I'll pick Fire & Blood back up. I think I just need a break from trying to force L5R content out of my brain and just do some more free-form work for myself. It'll be a nice change of pace.

So, what else will I do to continue my quest to be a deep geek? Well, if I ever get a lot of money, I'll get some more programming books and get up to speed, or perhaps start working on a second computer. I'd like something monstrously powerful, but I'd be happy with anything that's better than the 450 MHz box I've got now. I think I need to dump another quarter-gig of memory into this thing.

I'm also going to just start absorbing more knowledge. I'm thinking of grabbing a new paperback from B&N every two weeks or so, just to have something new to read and to expand my horizons a bit. Haven't decided what, yet. Maybe delve into some classic sci-fi or horror... maybe some of Lovecraft's stuff. Or perhaps some more Neal Stephenson cyberpunk novels.

Anywho, I should get back to work. TTYL, LJ.
