Gah. Our PS2 is on the fritz. It's being extremely picky about what games it reads. Even discs that have never had a problem, like Crazy Taxi, can't be read. I wonder if it just needs a good cleaning - I hope that's all it needs. We got it used, so it has no warranty, and we just don't have the funds to replace a $300 game system.

Thank goodness that we have a spare PSX over at my parents' house. We'd only lose the ability to play FFX (already beaten) and Crazy Taxi. Oh, and any PS2 games that friends bring over.

Please oh please let a good cleaning fix it.

Ugh.

Did some research on PS2 troubleshooting - turns out that the "Disc Read Error" that we're getting (and that Jed's getting too) is a very common problem, and not one that's easy to fix. In some cases, using a high-quality lens cleaner. In others, you have to crack the box open and clean the lens with a Q-tip or soft cotton cloth. And that's not even foolproof.

Of course, it also might be because our entertainment center isn't 100% level - I don't know that it's not level, but apparently the PS2 is so sensitive that a minor angle can throw the whole thing off kilter. It is true that the thing didn't start having any major problems until we got the new entertainment center...

So many possibilities. I guess I'll check it out tonight, maybe go by Best Buy or WalMart to get a high qualitry dry DVD cleaner.

I can't think of anything remotely witty to say without looking horribly stupid, so I'll just keep it simple. Happy birthday, man. Thanks for being around, and may you be around for many years to come.
