Got a call from Mom Friday night. She read my LJ entry about sinking into a pointless depression. Cool thing is, though, she wasn't worried or frantic or anything. She was just understanding, explaining how she fights with depression too, just like her mom did, so I'm in good company. I love that about my parents. They've never been "do as I say, not as I do" people, and they're good at putting everything in perspective, because in most cases I'm walking a trail through life that they blazed years before. Some people my age don't think their parents have anything to offer, but that's so untrue. If nothing else, that life experience and love cna really help us out when we need it.

Got a chance to get some of my questions on Seth's book answered. Part of me is really enjoying digging into the crunchy parts of the book, looking for things to be fixed on an errata list. Part of me feels really guilty about it too. It's like pointing out all the flaws in a picture at an artist's first big show. I'm doing it so it can be fixed, but I can also see where that would be very annoying.

Got our presents from Dan and Dennis today, and deliverd ours to them. Dennis got me a really nice shirt - surprisingly sharp given the brand. Boy's got good fashion sense, tho'. Dan got me a Phoenix and Dragon set of Chinese hand massage balls. I've got an old set of yin-yang ones, but this set is really slick looking and is a bit smaller, so it should be easier to roll them. Dan also got us a Corgi calendar - too too slick, neh? The best part was his gift to Z, though - he got her a set of wind chimes, something she's been wanting for a while now. She just lit up when she saw that. :)

Lessee... what else? Tight on money, but what else is new? Doubtful that we'll be able to get Final Fantasy X right when it comes out... maybe later in the week or so. That's cool - we've got one reserved, so it's not like we're going to miss out. Still have yet to get our property tax bill, so I have to find out how much that will be. Can't do it monday, but Tueday definitely. So many things we have to do, so little funds to do it with. Not really stressing on it, though. We've got fundage coming in, and Z's been getting more art, so it's all good. Still, though...

Things I would do if I had extra money (like $1000+)
  • Get Z's molars fixed, so she can eat peanuts and popcorn and rice again

  • Get the car's 60,000 mile maintenance done

  • Pay off some more bills, so we can get caught up again

  • Get our friends better gifts than we've been able to

  • Buy some of those things for the Hope Center (an inner city youth center here in KC) needs

  • Yeah, that's something about being tight on money. You learn a bit about sacrifice, and a lot about making do. I've got pretty much everything I want right now. There's a lot of little things that would be nice to have, sure, but I don't need them, and if I had the fundage to get them all, I'd still have higher priorities. I don't really want for anything I need - that's all covered, thank God. I've got enough items to keep me occupied, and I've got a loving wife and good little Corgi son, and loving parents and friends who look out for us, and we don't go hungry, and we don't freeze at night, and we've got enough money for little luxuries like Christmas lights and magazines, so I think we're doing pretty good. Thanks, God, for looking out for us.

But now it's SHAMELESS PLUG time. Z's been trying to get bids on a picture she's put up for auction, and so far she's gotten no response beyond a few compliments. So, here's our plug:

    <plug type="shameless"> Bid on me! I'm a picture of a Japanese fox spirit sweeping at a temple!</plug>

If you like what you see, and/or you want to help support an awesome artist who's trying to help support her family, then place a bid, please! It would mean so much, both financially and for her self-esteem. I'd bid, but buying art from one's own wife is a bit counter-productive, as illustrated by that Visa/eBay add where the guy unknowingly buys a lamp from his wife while trying to find a match to his wife's lamp.

Anywho, I've typed enough tonight. Peace be with you all, and may God keep you all warm and safe this holiday season!
