Winter's last gasp.
Mar. 3rd, 2002 10:11 pmWell, this weekend marked what is probably winter's last big attempt at actual winter-ish weather this season. We had around 3 to 5 inches of snow, but with the heavy winds blowing the snow into drifts it was hard to tell what the final depth was. Some places had barely an inch, while just a few feet away you'd be halfway up your shins in snow. Needless to say, Ein loved it. He'd bounce and run and nip at the snow and just generally have a good time playing - even if the snow was over his head in spots. That was a happy dog.
This has been an odd winter, to say the least. Most of the time it's been mild, almost spring-like all season. It's been in the 70s and sunny most of the time. I think we got snow a grand total of two times (including this weekend), and one of those was only overnight - it was all gone by noon. When it's hit, though, by God it hit hard. January's ice storm was utterly fucking evil, and if I ever see its like again, it'll be too soon. While it was eerily beautiful, it made travel hazardous and denied some people power for almost a week - Dan can attest to that. This snowstorm was pretty nasty too. We were pretty much shut down totally on Saturday, and this morning the side streets had absolutely no traction on them. My little Geo Metro does not handle packed snow well - and that's with three people in the car and two tubes of sand in the trunk.... which reminds me: anyone want two tubes of sand once winter's over? It's great for traction, but hard on the gas mileage.
And of course, this coming week we're looking at weather in the high 50s/low 60s. I love Missouri weather - so unpredictable!
