Feb. 7th, 2004 01:57 pmIn a futile attempt to break our cabin fever, Z and I just tried heading out. The driveway's clear, and Runcie's been in the garage for the past 2 days, so he was clean and easy to warm up. Pulled out of the garage, down the driveway, and onto the street.
We got a whole 5 feet. Then the front wheels lost traction, and we just sat there spinning. Doesn't help that we're at the bottom of a very slight hill, and the stretch of street right in front of our house is covered with packed snow. Fortunately, I was able to coast backwards, then go forward again and turn into the driveway. Good thing I didn't go the other way, where there's a slight angle down and I wouldn't have been able to coast back.
The irony of the situation is, we're right behind the city works office -- the place where all the plowing originates -- and we have what look to be the worst roads in town. They're clear just down the street, and up the intersection to the highway, less than a few hundred feet away. Traction, and thus freedom, is within sight, but we can't get there.
So, another day stuck in the house. I hope Z doesn't go nutty from the confinement.
