Sep. 20th, 2003 09:43 pmGot the rest of the yard mowed today, and I must say, it looks so much better. The side yard is nice and long, great for tossing a ball around, or even playing a short-field game of football. Never thought I'd enjoy doing yardwork, but there's something about the sense of completion one gets from seeing the yard all neatly trimmed. Seeing the progress as you're working really helps.
Also, I'd like to note that there's something about the smell of cut grass and lawnmower exhaust... normally, I wouldn't put those two things together as a "good" smell, but after cutting the yard, it's a great smell. A very manly smell, I think. Kicks up the testosterone levels. The kind of smell that makes you want a beer afterwards -- pretty impressive, since I don't drink regularly. At the end of the day, I was hot, sweaty, sticky, itchy, and covered in grass clippings, but damn, did I feel good. Feeling sore now, but not regretting it at all.
Progress on the interior of the house is coming along wonderfully. Guest room is done (save for a wee bit of touch-up, if we do that), master bedroom has a single coat of paint, bathroom sink's been pulled out and the floor pulled up, and we're almost ready to put down flooring in the office. We can start moving things in next week, and moving over seven days is much, much easier than moving over two. It's really starting to feel like our house, and it's really becoming a tangible thing.
I can't wait 'til it's done, just to bask in the happiness that will be our own home. Best part is, by the end of the first month's rent, we'll already have about $2300 dollars of equity in the house. Three years to go before we have to get a mortgage and make it truly ours, but by then we'll have over $6000 in equity built up, not counting any other improvements we make.
