Sep. 14th, 2003 10:53 pmLong day today. Up by 5:30 to get showered and ready to help with setup at church, where we ended up making a food run to keep the hospitality tables stocked with sweet pastry goodness. Saw a beautiful sunrise this morning; the sunlight was shining below the cloud deck, so the occasional low bumps and tendrils of cloud were highlit in vibrant purples and oranges. Heard a good message about working -- the gist was: enjoy your lot, such as it is, enjoy your labor, and trust in God in all things - and headed out to buy paint for the new house. Did really well at coming in under budget, too.
And then, there was much waiting, as we coordinated things with Mom and Dad. They brought over our gas grill, exiled from the apartment for over a year, and a lawnmower donated by someone at church. May not need it, though. When we opened the shed to put away the grill and mower, we found another mower and a weed eater. We've been explicitly told that anything that was left in the shed was ours, and that mower that's been left in there is very nice. The friend selling us the house (on a rent-to-own basis) is giving us a total, total hookup - mower, weed eater, 2 fridges, a freezer, a washer and dryer (that we get in October), and a bunch of lawn care tools. We'll be wanting for very, very little.
Did another run to Lower's for miscellaneous pricing, painting gear, and extra keys, and then started getting work done. Mom found a can of stain in the garage and touched up most of the doors and molding. Dad got the screen doors re-attached securely with huge lag screws. Z and I put down vinyl floor tiles - got over 100 square feet done in an hour, with her peeling the paper off the adhesive backs and queuing up tiles, and me placing them down and keeping the soon-to-be-tiled portions of the floor smooth and clean. Got about half the living room done, and the difference it's making is amazing; we'll try to have pictures in the next couple of days.
Now, though, we're just tired. Z's passed out on the couch, and I'm winding down before bed. Feeling a bit dehydrated, so more water's in order. Busy day tomorrow, too. Mom and Z are going to work on painting prep - steaming off/peeling up the wallpaper, masking the wood trim and windows, and probably getting some basic edges painted to get started. More painting on Wednesday, and possibly Thursday as well. Saturday will see the death and rebirth of the bathroom sink, as well as the retiling of the bathroom floor. It's all starting to come together, and it's looking really good. Of course, once all that's done, we get to start moving. Yay!
Time to rest now, though.
