Nintendo sneaks back into our lives..

Well, after I picked up Z from work, we got some shopping done. Thank God for Z, for Amazon wishlists, and for 30% discounts at Barnes & Noble. :)

On the way back from lunch and shopping, we were talking in the car about various games, and of course, the conversation turned towards Final Fantasy. I mentioned that FF: Crystal Chronicles was going to be a Gamecube-only title.

"Well, I guess we'll just have to get a Gamecube," says Z as we approach the turn that will take us to our apartment complex. "You want to go get one?"

"Are you sure, hon? We could put that money towards the tablet you want," says I.

"I've got a tablet that works just fine, and besides, we're going to be starting up a savings account for the tablet and other such expenditures," says Z. " I can wait a little bit longer. Besides, I want a little Metroid action."

And so, the quest for the Gamecube began. It was a short quest; we wanted to get a bundled system, for it would be cheaper, and we knew of two places nearby that weren't in the mall where we could easily acquire such a bundle -- Target, and Gamestop. Target was all out, so we returned home, rested a bit, then went to Gamestop. And such a bundle was found, and it included Super Mario Sunshine and a memory card, and there was much rejoicing.

So that was our gift to each other this Christmas. Was it an impulse buy? Yes and no. Yes, in that we just decided that now was the right time to get one. No, in that ever since Metroid Prime came out, we've been toying with getting one "some day". The "extra" paycheck I received on Friday -- the one that falls outside of our bill schedule -- made today that day.

And the tablet? We have a plan on that too. For this week's work, Z will get paid next Friday, the 3rd. That paycheck goes into the new savings account. After that, I put $50 a month from my paychecks, and she can put in her B&N money (before she goes on hiatus), and anything she wants to add from any commissions she sells. I figure that, bare minimum, we could have $300 saved up by April. By then, we should get our tax return, let that make up the difference, and voila - new tablet for Z's birthday. :)
