Dehydration, Mexican Pizza, Sex, and Tony Blair
Well, turns out that I don't have Maggie's cold. Looks like it was just a case of dehydration leaving my sinuses and throat raw and red, which led to a nasty headache. Several glasses of water and a hot bath later, I felt all better.
Oh, and the Mexican pizza Z made last night for lunch today didn't hurt either... damn, that was good. I didn't realize Jack's made such awesome Mexican pizza. The sauce was sweet, zesty, and just had the right mix of spices and flavors.
I felt so much better, in fact, that at 3:30 in the morning, I woke up from a dead sleep, cuddled up with Z, and we ended up having a hot, vigorous bout of early early morning sex. There's nothing quite like that sensation of looking up at the person you love as she straddles you and rides to glory -- it's just magical. This new apartment is doing wonders for her energy level, and thus her sex drive. We're both very happy with this development. Of course, the fact that she's brainstorming some ideas for hentai doesn't hurt. :)
So anyway, after we both had very satisfying orgasms, we spooned and fell asleep. A few hours later, we woke up, showered, took the Ein for his morning walk, and Z made breakfast while we listened to Tony Blair, the British Prime Minister, speak to the Labour Party about the UK's stand on terrorism and the Taliban, etc., etc. He made some very bold statements, stronger even than Bush's statements a couple of weeks ago... and then goes from there to talk about the rest of the world. How that the sense of international community that's coming together in the wake of Sept. 11 can lead humanity to greater things. He talked about Africa, and how the developed world can help the developing world. He talked about Israel, and how both the Israelis and the Palestinians need to be treated with justice and fairness. He talked about the environment, and how humanity has the wit and wisdom to protect it if only we can find the will to do so. He addressed fears that protesters had towards globalization, and recognized that if not done with care, it can be very detrimental and harmful, but if done properly and with a sense of justice towards the many, it can be a boon to humanity.
He addressed not just the state of one issue, but the state of the world.
Why can't we have a president like that? I'll admit, my opinion of Bush has gone up several notches due to how he's handling this entire situation. He's done a remarkable job, considering how much of an idiot many thought he was beforehand. But Blair has... charisma. Strength. Forethought. His vision is broad, far-reaching, all-encompassing. It's not just sound-bytes. It's a view of a future where humanity realizes that no man is an island, that no nation is isolated from the ripples of action in other nations, that we really are all in this together on a fundamental level.
Of course, after the speech (which we watched on CNN), the American newscasters ignore the entire last two-thirds of his words and focus on the anti-terrorism part. That's what gets ratings, y'know. And I was pissed! This man had so much to say on the state of the world and how it can be improved for all, and they just glossed over it because it didn't have anything to do with Osama bin Laden or the World Trade Center.
Sometimes -- okay, most of the time -- I detest the shortsightedness of the American media... and of course, since most Americans just get spoon-fed their views on world events from the media, they have trouble looking past their own neighborhood and seeing the big wide world beyond.
*sighs*
Oh well. At least the UK has a great leader. Now, if we can just borrow him...
