Rockin' the Suburbs
"Lemme tell y'all what it's like
Being male, middle-class, and white..."
-- Ben Folds, "Rockin' the Suburbs"
Oh, nothing really profound or even related to recent events with that quote, other than I love Ben Folds' new song and how it pokes fun at all the angry rich white male teenagers and their music (yeah, Eminem and Fred Durst, I'm talking to you... and you, the singer of Stain'd... you cheer up!)
Anywho, Z and I just got back from the offices of a different apartment complex, and we've already got our credit check in (which we've been told is just a formality in most cases), and the lease signed, and unless the check fails, we'll be able to pick up the keys any time.
Wow.
I know, seems like we've got all the ducks in a row already, but now there's so much to do! Get Z job applications from the strip mall that will be right across the street from us, get rent money together so we can move out before the last day of our lease here (and a pet deposit, too), get utilities shut off her, get them turned on over there, find out if we can take our DSL over there, or if we have to get cable modem or somesuch (must have our broadband), get our shit sorted and cleaned and packed, kennel the dog while we move, get money for the moving van, get the van, load it (several times) and drive it to the new apartment (several times) and unload all our packed-up shit from it (several times), get everything unpacked and settled, get the puppy out of kenneling, and then collapse.
*gasp*
Got all that? Good.
However, it'll all be worth it. The apartments are AWESOME. Despite the fact that they're just behind the busiest shopping area in eastern KC, it's amazingly quiet and secluded, and the apartment we picked is tucked away in the back, and has this awesome view of hills and fields and forested areas... you can almost totally forget where you are, which is just what Z wanted. And it's clean, and quiet, and doesn't feel like a three-story trailer park like our current apartment complex.
And there's tons of space, and a great looking kitchen, and two bathrooms, and... I could just keep going and going, but I'll stop here. Needless to say, we're excited, somewhat awed, almost overwhelmed, a bit scared, and giddy too.
Basically, it's all good here. :)
So, I guess in a month, our white middle-class asses will be rockin' a new set of suburbs. :)
