Square - 1987-2002

Square is dead. Long live Square!

Yes, fellow FF fans, our favorite addiction/gaming producer is being dismantled and merged with another company. We can only hope that good things come of this.

not likely

sad to say, but I would see this as Square realizing it's tapped the market for what it can, and it getting out by selling itself to another company. Sure, it will live on and make games, but you could tell they were grasping at straws when the were actually going to do a sequal! I mean one of the best things about RPGs is learning about the characters, not always knowing their background and thus having character development. I mean I look at Suikoden, which has two sequals out now, but even though they kept the same game structure, each one is different in the fact that you have totally different main characters, some of the other older charcters from the privious games make appearances, but they are more there to tie in a link that this is the same world, but also that time has moved on, and now it is another character's story.

That and FFXI, which is almost starting to look like a flop due to its lack of information in the US...and the rumors abounding that it won't make it over here at all...which sad to say, if EQOA hits the stores first, (which I'm sure it will) I think it will take a lot of the American market for FFXI, which would make FFXI turn into a game like DOAC, which from what I've heard had a really big release, but after that I can't think of anyone that plays it. (I know lots who have stopped, and another person who tried recently and said there were only 3 people in the relam where he was...I mean battle.net has tons more ppl than that.)

Also, I think FFXI would've been better as a battle.net type game rather than trying to make it an EQ type game...

Then there's the whole storyline stuff...Xenogears, a hidden square game with an awesome story, which after it was created those people left square...now Xenosaga is coming out, but not as a Square game...

But on the plus side, maybe we can finally get some good story RPGs out here developed by US companies that we have to translate into japanese to import over to them

just my random thoughts...but I won't take too much more stock in what they release until after I see and rent it to see first hand how it is...
