Just got back from a game night over at Dennis's; it's been fun getting back to my roots, CCG-wise. Sitting around, sorting cards, swapping extras around, throwing together decks, and commencing with the beatings on one another.

And that's the important part -- the beatings. Seems like all the games that we enjoy the most seem to be mostly focused on combat, with little to no resource management.

-- Dragonball Z
-- Warlord
-- Rage (White Wolf's Rage, not the travesty that WotC/FRPG put out)
-- Highlander

These are the ones that seem most pleasing to people. Perhaps it's because it's the cardboard equivalent of playing Tekken or Street Fighter, rather than the cardboard equivalent of, say, Age of Empires. Fast paced, relatively high-energy games with an almost visceral appeal.

Feels almost like I'm coming home again...
