So Bush is visiting Gulfport, MS, and Biloxi, MS, today... but he's just going to fly over NOLA.
You want to prove your leadership to me, George? You should have told your flight crews to unload all non-necessities from Air Force 1, ditch the press corp and all your unnecessary staff, and replace it with food, water, blankets, and volunteers/aid workers. You order your people on the ground to commandeer busses from various buslines and schools, and you tell them to get their asses down to NOLA and get people out. You arrange military escorts - Fort Hood's in Texas, right? You should be able to mobilize a military presence within 24 hours and get them to the crisis; you're the damned commander-in-chief.
Oh, and you fire that son-of-a-bitch Michael "We didn't know that there were thousands at the convention center, despite the fact that it was all over the news for two days" Brown from being head of FEMA. He's been the poster child for incompetent bureaucrats this week.
One last thing, George - I hope to God that people remember that a major American city transformed into a third-world warzone on your watch. You and your administration were put to the challenge, and you have been found lacking to a disgraceful degree.
EDIT: 9/2/05 12:25 PM CDT - Tour and school busses are finally arriving to evacuate people from the convention center. Well, at least they got one thing right, even if it took them 4 days to do it.
