I just found out that my mom may have Multiple Sclerosis. It's not a verified diagnosis yet, but it's the prime contender for the numbness and muscle spasms she's been having. An MRI of her head revealed an "abnormality" in the brain, and the neurologist wants to do a number of other tests (including a spinal tap) to pin down the actual disorder.

Pardon me while I digest all of this.

My grandmother has Multiple Sclerosis to the point where her entire left side is numb, it does not stop her in the least from getting around with the aid of a leg brace, cooking, or caring for herself. (Not to mention terrorizing the rest of the family.) Granted, it's not cool to have it, and it is a major influence in one's life, but it is possible to continue in a normal lifestyle with it.
