nockergeek: (busy)
We'll just break this down into pros and cons.

Pros:
+ About 15 miles closer; I'll be using 2/3rds of the gas that I did before.
+ The pay is substantially better. I'll know exactly how much better when I get that first paycheck.
+ I get to focus on one programming language (Java) instead of having to be a jack-of-all-trades (Java, PHP, ColdFusion, etc.)
+ It's an entirely different style of development than what I did at my last job, so it's an opportunity to do new things, to be challenged, and to grow.
+ The environment is comfortable, relaxed, yet still very professional.
+ The workload seems relatively light; no juggling a half-dozen widely disparate projects at once.
+ It's a growing company, rather than a stagnating/shrinking one.
+ Dual widescreen monitors. Oh yeah. :)
+ Beer Fridays. Not entirely sure what that entails, but I'm intrigued.

Cons:
- I don't have an office anymore, just a cube which I need to start decorating. Still, that's not a totally bad thing. I was feeling very isolated in my old office.
- Because it's a new style of development for me, I have a lot to learn/relearn. I'm hoping that I won't look like an idiot.
- It's a generally very quiet office. Good thing I have my iPod and headphones.
- I haven't yet settled in and started being very social, but that will change with time, I'm sure.
- Not eligible for medical insurance for another 4 weeks.
- I think I'm the only one in the development department who'll be around on the day before Thanksgiving. EEK!
