General geekery
Aug. 7th, 2007 12:16 amRidiculously hot today. Even with AC, working in the corner office of a brick building with big windows is not unlike working in an oven. I finally took off around 4:25 (about an hour earlier than normal) just because it was too hot to think. Tomorrow, shorts are the order of the day, along with cold drinks and a small fan. As long as I can keep my environment comfortable, I think I can stay focused.
After a month or two of idleness, I'm finally making a dent in my 40k mini painting. On Sunday, I managed to get the top coat on the armor on all 12 fire warriors done (screw painting each plate separately; I'm going the inkwash route), and got a good start on one of the crisis suits. On the fire warriors, I just need to top-coat the cloth parts of their uniforms, and then I can start getting into ink washes and highlights and start doing the detail work. Once that's done, a brief respite while I work on stealthsuits and crisis suits, and then I get to do the whole mess over again with my Kroot carnivores. At least they don't have flat armor, so I imagine we'll see lots of dry-bruhing in their future.
And then the 'fish. I have no idea how best to go about painting the Devilfish. An airbrush comes to mind. Shame I don't have one.
Meanwhile, I continue to slowly grind my way through Pokemon Diamond. Four badges down, four to go, and I'm hitting the 20-30 grind on a lot of my lesser-used-but-invariably-important Pokemon. I hate grinding with a fiery passion, but somehow I keep going. Thanks to
hidaman, though, I have all 9 of the starters from the other Pokemon games. More importantly, I have all 4 fire starters now (once a Phoenix, always a Phoenix), and they're all named "Con Fuego!" Yes, I am a weirdo, thank you for asking.
When I actually have time for the PS2, I've been digging Front Mission 4. Yes, I'm a couple of years late on this one, and it's a shame that I missed Front Mission 3 on the PS1, but the turn-based mecha goodness makes me a very happy camper. It takes me back to high school, when my friends and I had impromptu Battletech matches (the old pen and paper and mini kind, not the newer clicky kind) during study hall. It's a shame that there aren't more games like this on the market. The best I can do otherwise is MechCommander, which I hear is ungodly hard. Anyway, the only downside to FM4 is that the gunfire is loud enough that it disturbs Andi unless I have the volume on the TV cranked down to, oh, 2 or lower. Won't be able to hear anything else, but at least the gunfire is at a manageable level.
Other than all that, life's pretty normal here. The baby continue to grow and develop, and
the_z continues to be drained of all energy. I could use a bit extra myself, so sleeping now might be a good idea.
