Miscellany

A few random items:

* Sleep still seems to come at a premium, although Andi sleeps a bit better now. [livejournal.com profile] the_z is a saint for letting me get my midnight-to-six sleep. I'd be useless if I wasn't getting that. As is, I merely have a tendency to doze a little bit. I have to watch myself late at night, though, when I'm staying up to keep an eye on the baby while Z catches a nap. At least two or three times, I've fallen asleep while waiting for midnight (when I usually do a feeding) to roll around. This weekend, I fell asleep sitting up on the couch despite 45 minutes of trying very hard to not do anything conducive to sleep. Apparently, sitting on the couch is enough to make me pass out.

* Last week, I had an eye exam (my first in 9+ years), and tomorrow morning I get to pick up my new glasses. Going for something a bit different; instead of the rounded frames I've had in one form or another for the past 17 years, I'm going to be rocking the short, wide rectangular frames this time around. They transition into sunglasses as well, so I'll finally have something to keep the glare out. I'll post pictures once I have a decent one.

* For entertainment, I've been digging out games that I've left idle for a while. New games aren't within the budget, and I have plenty of older ones to keep me occupied. On the PS2, I've working on .hack//G.U. 2 , and once that's complete I have Rogue Galaxy and Shadow Hearts: Covenant waiting in the wings, along with Metroid Prime 2 on the GC. Over the past couple of days, though, Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones on the GBA has held my attention. Partly, I'm just trying to justify past purchases, but I'm also trying to avoid the siren song of the latest Pokemon game. I'm not really a big Pokemon fan, so it's not much of a struggle, but there's something appealing about joining in on something my friends are doing.

* Heavy Metal was showing on Universal HD yesterday morning. Unfortunately, I had to go to work so I only caught the first half of the film. It looked beautiful in HD; I realized how many little details I'd missed after years and years of watching it from a slowly-fading VHS tape. I also realized that I'd never once seen it in the original widescreen. I hope they play it again during a time when I can actually watch it. It's got heavy nostalgia value for me; I was raised on Heavy Metal, it was one of my first exposures to adult-oriented sci-fi animation (mmm animated breasts), and my dad even owns a cel from the film.'

* I'm trying to decide what my next story arc for Mutants and Masterminds will be. Now that I'm getting more comfortable with the system, I want to do something more, something better. I don't know if I want to do anything particularly epic, but I would like to raise the stakes for the characters a bit, maybe make the whole thing a bit more personal. We'll see; maybe it's something to save for another campaign.
