Christmas comes but once a year...
Dec. 25th, 2006 02:50 pm...which is a shame, because it's been great to spend it with friends and family - and we're not done yet; there's still Friendmas on the 30th to be shared with
evildennis,
hidaman, and the rest of the crew.
It's been interesting. This has been the first year in a long time where I haven't really had any anticipation of what I'm receiving. I haven't been too worried about what people were getting for me, and I've been more concerned about what I wanted to get for others - which is as it should be, I think. I wasn't able to get everything I wanted for
the_z (mostly due to DS Lites disappearing from shelves faster than I could get to stores), but she was very happy with what I could get her, and that makes me happy. She also got amazingly showered with gifts by my parents and her mom, which they claim is because she's currently "receiving gifts for two," but I think it's really just because they love her a whole lot. :)
I can't complain about what I've received, either. I have more than enough DVDs (SCTV, Monty Python's Flying Circus, Rome, and Lord of the Rings) to keep me entertained for a good long while (I think Z and I figured it out to be roughly a workweek's worth of video), I've finally got the 3.5 Monster Manual (although Z accidentally bought me a second Player's Guide, but we can exchange that tomorrow for a DMG), I've got a massive book - nay, a tome - of photos from the Civil War, new scarves and winter hats and socks (which I needed badly) and pocky to last me, well, for at least a couple of days. Oh, and a flying monkey. Can't forget the flying monkey.
I can't wait until Friendmas, when we get to give the remaining gifts from under our tree (which now looks strangely bare). Hopefully, we did well in picking out gifts for folks. It's nothing terribly fancy, but we were just really enjoying being able to get gifts for everyone this year - it's the first year we were able to do it and not worry too much about it. Next year, maybe a different story - we'll have a bouncing baby girl to shop for, too - but for now, we get to give to our friends, and that makes me very happy. The best gift, though, will be spending time with our friends and enjoying their company. That's already more than I deserve. :)
