nockergeek: (disgust)
I can't believe it, but I actually just got snared by a phishing scheme.

I received what looked to be an eBay message request, with someone asking a question regarding [livejournal.com profile] the_z's current auction, and I clicked the link to answer the email. I was presented with an eBay login screen. I logged in... and was redirected to a second eBay login screen. Something was odd, because the fonts on the first screen seemed a bit off, and the login hadn't taken... so I checked the link again.

Turned out, the first "login" page was on a Taiwanese website.

*sound of hand smacking forehead*

I immediately went in and changed my password and "secret" question, so I should have them stopped before they start. I'm tempted to change my sign-in name, too, just to utterly confound them.

UPDATE: I've talked with eBay's staff via live chat, and they've confirmed that with the changes I've made, my account should be secure again. There was only a small window of time - a few minutes - that the account was compromised, so hopefully nothing happened in that time.
