So, we have a new TV now. The old one was due for a replacement, and we've been wanting to get one for the past year or so, but either the time wasn't right, or the finances weren't in line with it. Now, however, the stars aligned properly, all was well, and we went ahead and bought it.

I want to say it's nothing fancy - no big LCD/DLP/Plasma flat-screen - but it's still quite decent. We went with Best Buy's storebrand, as we liked the feature set, the look of the set, and the price range, and ended up getting a 30" widescreen HDTV CRT. Now, how well that 'HDTV' portion will play out, we're not quite sure - all our signals are analog right now, so nothing looks quite as nice as it did in the store (which, I'm sure, was all set up with component video, S-Video at the very least, to look as good as possible). Probably going to look at getting a set of component cables for the DVD player (and possibly a new DVD player, although that's down the road a bit), and possibly for the PS2. I'd get a set for the GameCube, but they're on back order from Nintendo (the only vendor who even carriest them), and we only have 2 sets of component inputs. If absolutely nothing else, we'll probably upgrade the RCA cables between our DVD and video switcher, and between the video switcher and the TV, and possibly the wall-to-TV coax cable.

Z was worried that I was disappointed with the TV, and to an extent I was - it wasn't the immediate OMGWow improvement I was hoping for, and with a bigger screen, everything analog looks a bit blurrier. However, I also know that the types and quality of cables we're using is having an impact. Just taking me a day or two to adjust - kind of like my flatscreen monitor at home made me realize how bad the artifacting on some pictures is, something I didn't notice on the old monitor. I'll make peace with this TV, and get it hooked up right to get the most out of it.
