nockergeek: (tired)
Can't sleep. Brain's too active, mostly due to spending the last hour or so scrubbing the latest version of ZoneAlarm off of my computer. If you use it, don't upgrade to the latest version (6.0.631.003). It's extremely buggy, to the point where A) the firewall doesn't work, and B) attempting to uninstall it results in an incomplete uninstall, which then causes the remnants to lock your browser access to a predetermined page that gives removal instructions. After trying several attempts at a "clean" install/uninstall, I ended up having to boot into Safe Mode and delete the remnant files, which were otherwise protected by the phantom ZoneAlarm non-process process. For future recommendations, don't use ZoneAlarm. Use something like Kerio Personal Firewall instead.

Also, the other thing keeping me awake? Oh, my mom's having some nerve issues with numbness and muscle spasms. As I was trying to sleep, my hypochondriastic phobia of disease had me running through all sorts of possibilities, including my potential for contracting whatever was on my mind at the time. Nothing like contemplating neurological conditions to keep one awake at night.

So yeah, I can't sleep.
nockergeek: (just chillin')
Hoping that my sleep tonight is more restful than last night. I did end up getting a solid 5 hours of sleep, and I hope to get at least 6 tonight, which is why I'm trying to avoid any thought-intensive activities; I'm hoping that I can lull my brain into a state of bored slumber. On the other hand, sometimes my brain needs to be worn out. We'll see which it is tonight.

Got to watch Ghost in the Shell: Innocence tonight with Z, and that was enjoyable; I'm definitely intruiged about seeing the rest of the series. I've seen the original GitS movie, but I want to see Stand Alone Complex now. I know what i"m going to add to the Netflix queue. With the stormy, rainy weather, it was a good night to watch a movie on the couch with my love. If nothing else, Netflix has given us both an excuse to get away from our computers and spend time together (or rather, no good excuse not to get off the computer). Of course, who knows what will happen when we add the wireless router into the mix? Personally, I'm contemplating a media computer in the living room, so that I don't have to lug Master Loo into the living room whenever we want to watch downloaded fansubs on TV.

Z also got me a Magic 9th Edition Fat Pack the other day, and I must say part of me misses the relative simplicity of Magic. Looking over the card list, though, it's so very different from what I remember, back from the days of 4th Edition when I still played. 4th Edition was still mostly similar to Revised/Unlimited/etc. 9th Edition? Hell, I recognize a handful of cards - some classics from when I first started, and some cards that came out in expansions. Is it sad that my mind is contemplating rebuilding one of my favorite decks from the days of yore, which would cost me anywhere from 5 to 10 dollars (assuming that I can get the cards from the same eBay vendors), but not updating it much for the cards that have come out in the 8 or 9 years in the interim? Of course, the only people I'd play with would be [livejournal.com profile] hidaman, [livejournal.com profile] evildennis, [livejournal.com profile] richman1, et al, so it doesn't really matter what I'd build.

Need to get back to WoW a bit more in the next week or so. Being sick this weekend/week has really thrown my activity schedule out of whack, so it's needing some recalibration. Need to get more work done on the PFComics website, too. Just need content to plug in at this point, and if I put my mind to it, I think I can put some together. I mean, I was an English major; I can write something, right?
