Apr. 25th, 2005 10:12 amIt's 55 degrees outside. At our office, the heat is off and the A/C is on, and as the A/C is for the entire building, we can't turn it off. It's extremely frigid in here.
But anyway. About last night.
Last night was
tesstrosa's and my first introduction to the wonder that is B.D.'s Mongolian Barbecue. Absolutely wonderful. All-you-can-eat build-it-yourself stir-fry. Wow, but that phrase had a lot of hyphens. Anyway, you pick a meat (including choices like ahi tuna, sirloin, and lamb), load up on veggies, pick a sauce (or mix your own), add spices, and then watch the cooks prepare it. The ingredients are wonderfully fresh, and other than the sauce, there's no fillers of any type. It was easily some of the best food I've eaten at a restaurant in a long time. The deserts are massive, too; Z and I shared an apple cobbler with ice cream that was served in a goblet that had to be at least 5 inches wide. It was a great meal, spent with good friends, even if we did WoW-geek during the entire thing. *^_^* And fie on you,
greenwings, for beating us to the tab. Fie on you!!
Afterwards, we hit up Barnes & Noble for a bit, where I picked up a hardcover version of Trigun #2 (which was actually cheaper than the paperback, thanks to its being a B&N exclusive printing). Just need to pick up Trigun #1 to replace the copy I gave as a gift. Z got Kana de Manga (for learning hiragana and katakana), and a limited edition holofoil cover version of Shaman King #1. Once we finished killing time at B&N, we walked over to the Independence AMC 20 and saw Kung Fu Hustle. I've never seen anything quite so close to a live-action cartoon as this film that didn't use animated characters of some sort. The story was formulaic, but we were just there to watch the fighting and the funny, and the movie delivered both in spades. Late showing, though, so Z was falling asleep on my shoulder by the end. She's so cute when she's asleep.
Oh, oh! Almost forgot. Before Z and I got together with everyone, we visited a new store in the area that an acquaintance clued us onto. Mo Iikai Anime and Manga. There's actually a store in the area, only about 15 minutes away from our house, that is devoted solely to Japanese pop culture, manga, and anime. Their manga selection is nothing short of phenomenal, they have DVDs to rent, they have a large selection of Japanese snacks, and lots of assorted sway -- t-shirts, figures, model kits, and so forth. I actually found a set of collectible Naruto chess pieces (and picked up the Jiraiya and Tsunade figs, natch). I look forward to making future visits for those items that I just can't get easily through Pulp Fiction (like the 1/100 scale Gundam Astray Red Frame kit -- it will be mine).
So, thanks to
hidaman,
tim_almasy,
kbrighton,
foxkit,
animarelic, and
greenwings for going out with us last night. We both had a great time. Thanks for making Z's birthday a very happy one. ^_^
