Apparently, the cable into the office was cut with a razor, with several lacerations indicating that it was not a natural occurence. However, the cable technicians said that based on the corrosion, it had been cut down for quite a while, so it must have just recently snapped after being bare wire for a long while.

Well, there goes my plant theory. Shows what I know.
