Mar. 17th, 2004 11:39 pmI keep talking about my weekend, but I've never actually said what transpired.
Well, I bought a Dreamcast from Gamestop for $20. With an extra controller and 2 games (Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Virtual On), whole thing came to roughly $57. I figured it was a pretty good deal. Z and I had waffled back and forth about getting a DC for a long time, and the price was finally right.
Unfortunately, 7 hours later, I was taking it back, because it worked sporadically at best. The CD lens housing only moved one way, as far as I could tell -- if I manually moved it to the far end of its range and then put in a CD, it worked... unless it had to move back. Then it would start clicking a lot and stop reading the disc. Oh well. Took it back and got a refund, as they had no new ones. Really a shame, because I did get MvC2 working for a little while, and it was quite enjoyable; Virtual On, on the other hand, and a horrid control scheme and was nearly unplayable (even after I got it running).
So, yeah, for 7 hours I was a Dreamcast owner. A little annoyed at that, but not much. The refund helped pay for the second Ninja Scroll TV DVD (still need to get the original movie on DVD), and paid for Sunday night's activities -- Wrestlemania PPV at
hidaman's place. Wasn't feeling too good Sunday morning, but by the end of the day I was functional again. The PPV itself was a little less than I'd hoped for -- certainly didn't beat Wrestlemania 17, which I watched with Dan 3 years ago -- but that was less important than the time spent with friends.
Oh, and when you get
evildennis and
richman1 together, that's 50 decks for Random Magic. Insane amounts of weirdness in cardboard form; gotta love it.
So, that was my weekend in a nutshell. There were other things that happened (like helping some kids recover their on-the-run Husky), but the 7 hours of Dreamcast and Wrestlemania were definitely the highlights.
