Checked yesterday's mail this morning, and we got a letter from our old apartment complex's office. They say we breached our lease by moving out in September, and say we owe them $415 for October rent.

What. The. Fuck.

I informed them in person that we would be moving out 2 months early. Our lease was from October 1 to September 30. We moved out September 30 and did not renew our lease. We even put in a back-dated written notice at their suggestion. Funny thing is, looking at what they charged us otherwise, they only charged us $80 for stain removal... which means we should have a huge chunk of change due to us, but no, they don't want to pay us that.

Fuckers.

Just woke up from a nap. *yawn*

Went to the apartment complex office. Apparently, our lease didn't end in September. It ended in October. When it rolled over from the 2001/2002 year to 2002/2003, they shifted the start date ahead a month. I don't remember signing a 13-month lease, but then, they didn't give us a copy of our lease, either. I have to call the apartment office on Monday and talk to the manager, since she wasn't in today. Best case scenario is that they drop the claim that we broke our lease and return our deposit (minus the $80 spent for carpet cleaning). Worst case scenario is that they demand all the money in one lump-sum payment, no ifs, ands, or buts.

Honestly, I'm hoping for something in the middle.

I didn't expect to get our deposit back - it's just something you can't bank on, and you never know what they'll charge you for with repairs and cleaning anyway. On the other hand, I was also under the distinct impression that we were free and clear to move out at the end of September. Honestly, I'd be happy if they kept our deposit and dropped the rent claim, so that everyone broke even on the deal. If not, I suppose I'll see if they'll allow us to pay in installments; we can't drop $400 at once right now. I still have to get a desk (which are back in stock at Wal-Mart, so I'd best get one while I can), and we've got to save for other expenses, too.

But anywho, whatever happens happens. I have faith that we'll be okay, whatever the result.
