Poor LJ... I've been neglecting it...
May. 12th, 2003 11:26 amSo, what's been happening lately?
Still recovering from my illness last week. While I think the initial crud that attacked my sinuses is gone, I've never really had a chance to recover -- my allergies have been fighting off the massive levels of mold left by all the rain we've had. I've had a runny nose and stuffed-up ears since Friday, and while I slowly seem to be hitting equilibrium, I'm not there yet. Yesterday was really bad - didn't even make it to church or to Ashley and Garrett's for our C.S. Lewis reading. Left a message on their machine, but haven't heard back. Might give them another call tonight.
Saturday was interesting. Saw Dennis's symphonic concert, followed by the traditional post-concert bar/grill dinner. The concert's theme was the Missouri River and the Steamboat Arabia, and there was some interesting stories told in spoken interludes, but the music didn't do as much for me as it did in past concerts. Of course, we're still pushing for an all-Nobuo-Uematsu concert, so here's crossing our fingers...
Before the concert, Dan and Z and I watched the Icons: Metallica concert on MTV2. Some bands - Aaron Lewis of Staind, and Korn - had awesome covers of Metallica songs. Limp Bizkit's cover wasn't bad; they definitely added their own sound to it. However, the other two covers - Avril Lavigne doing Fuel, and Snoop Doggy Dogg doing Sad But True - were damn painful to listen to. Don't know what MTV was thinking. The best performance, though, was Jim Breuer singing If You're Happy And You Know It (Clap Your Hands) as Metallica would do it, complete with a great impersonation of James Hetfield's growl. Afterwards, James turned to the cameraman sitting next to him in the stands, and asked "Do I really sound like that?" After a quick growled "yeah", he nodded and said, "Yep, guess I do."
