Apr. 21st, 2003 11:28 amWell, we got a look at the house we're likely to be moving into. It's a nice little 1-story 3-bedroom ranch house. Our payments would most likely be about $60 less than our current rent, and the utilities would be about $80 to $100 more (since we wouldn't have water paid), so it pretty much balances out. We'd have to set aside some money for property tax, probably about $85 a month or so, but that's not bad -- we should have more bills paid off by then. The worst part would be having to buy a new fridge, washer, and dryer, but we may be able to get a decent set of used appliances. The house is in good condition, and the guy selling it is will to work with us to make it happen. I'm excited and terribly scared at the same time, but this opportunity is too good to pass up. I'm a bit worried about our finances, but Z's right - I need to stop worrying about what I can do by myself and put some faith in God. It's hard letting go of that desire to keep control, but I think it's for the best.
Mom's become deeply hooked on Zelda: Wind Waker. I got three calls last night in rapid succession as she asked me how to get past a couple of tricky areas. Otherwise, though, she's doing very well on her own. She got through all of Dragon Roost Island without help, and she just needed a little help on Forest Haven Island last night (with a stretch that gave me a little trouble at first, so it doesn't surprise me that she'd need help). I'm really proud of her, though. ^_^
Been working on minis this weekend, and I think I need to start replacing my craft paints with actual mini paints. I hear that the Vallejo Game Paints line is pretty good, even if it's $3 a bottle. Perhaps I can start replacing them bit by bit. I should get an easier-to-work-with, easier-to-thin, smoother paint in the bargain. Also need some more natural fiber brushes, like some good red sables, but that's a bit beyond my means. A pin vise, too, so I can start assembling the Dragon I was supposed to paint for Garrett, which is still half-done on my shelf. Beyond getting better tools, though, it's just practice-practice-practice that I need, trying out new techniques and further honing my existing skills. I'm getting slightly better, but I still have a lot of work to do.
