Today is my day to be irritated...
- It's only 1:00, and I've already worked on at least 9 different projects/issues for 3 different clients today. Meanwhile, the other developer in the office has one client and one project to deal with, ever.
- We have a development staff of 2 (down from 5 at our peak), we are officially busier than we ever have been in the history of the company, and yet there is no word on raises or new hires, as if none will happen. I'm not getting paid enough to start pulling extra hours (I don't even get overtime, thanks to being salaried), but it's the only way we'll get anything done on time unless we hire more people. Even one more would be a big help.
- Speaking of having 2 developers, there is word of providing 24/7 support for our customers through a rotating pager system. I have enough to do without babysitting clients on my time. "But clients call me at home all the time," explains the boss. Well, tough, Shouldn't have given them your mobile phone number... or better yet, leave the phone off when you're at home. It's what I do. Never mind the fact that the one customer who actually pays for 24/7 support hasn't paid us in over 200 days due to billing mistakes.
- Did I mention the 9 projects since I got in? Yeah. And I wonder why I have such a problem focusing during the day.
- The paper towels in the bathroom tear if you grab them with wet hands. When else would you grab them? I certainly don't need to towel off dry hands.
- It's too hot in here, but the Powers That Be won't turn on the A/C until the summer.
- We're out of water for the water cooler, so I'm reduced to buying cola and bottled water from the snackbar downstairs, which closes at 2:30 each day.
- Even if I did want to quit and find a new job, the job market is a big pile of shit, so I'm stuck here.
I'm happy that we're so busy now... I just wish the company would adapt and either grow and/or reward the remaining staff.
