Weekend

Sorry for the delay; we've been without 'net access all weekend thanks to SWBell's network being down, but apparently it's up again (since our office uses SWBell). The computer rebuilding is going swimmingly, and other than the lack of a 'net connection to get some more updated drivers and tweak settings and such, it's about done. Somehow, by getting rid of all the crap on the system left behind by old installs, I've somehow recovered 3 GB of my HD, despite the fact that I actually have slightly more software installed. If I took off Unreal Tournament (which wasn't on the system before the crash), I'd have an extra GB free.

Let's see. We're getting new furniture in 2 weeks, and a new Gateway computer for Z in 1 week. The former is thanks to her grandparents (and much drama involved, which I won't go into), and the latter is, well, just because. She needs her own computer for doing art, and now that we have a router, we can share our connection much easier. Oh, and did I mention that her PC is going to be more powerful than mine? She's getting a 1.8 GHz Pentium 4... of course, it has less RAM than mine, but that's fixable.

Oh, we had another developer laid off on Friday. We've cut away all the fat we can, and this one cut away flesh. Jeff was a great developer, and did some awesome work for Payless Shoe Source for us, but then Payless was finished, the system was utterly bulletproofed (since the only issues we received from them over the last few months were from user error on their end), and the work dried up. Between him and I, my boss said, there was enough work for one person -- and while I'm honored to be the one that was kept, sometimes I wonder if it should be that way. Ever think that you don't belong, or that you're not as skilled as your peers? That's how it is sometimes. I mean, Jeff had a degree and knew a lot more than I do. Or maybe it just feels that way. Anyway, I'm trying not to let it get to me. We're hoping we can re-hire him in a month, once our big product takes off. We've signed one company, and we've got another extremely close to signing, and there are several more waiting in the wings...

And speaking of ex-employees, Z and I went out to Hop's with Adam (an ex-graphics guy) and his girlfriend Emily. There was much eating, drinking, talking, and laughing at the table. The food was great, the service was wonderful, and the company we had was excellent. I hope we get to do it again soon.

Saturday, moved furniture over at Mom and Dad's place, since they're getting new carpet today. Actually went a lot smoother than we'd expected, because some furniture turned out to be just short enough (by a fraction of an inch) to scoot under the doorframes, rather than having to angle and lift and injure ourselves. :)

Sunday, did the church thing, chilled out afterwards, had delicious tuna helper for lunch, hit A2Z, bought a book, got extremely inspired, and today I'm looking at starting work on a D&D campaign. A real honest-to-God campaign. We'll see how it goes.
